Large wetland complex but hydrology altered by ditches, dikes and a lack of river flooding. Low connectivity, fragmented landscape but still one of the most intact remnants along the Ohio River floodplain in WV. Bounded by lizardtail slough on the side of the river and mowed nature trails.;Large remnant canebreak on natural levee. Trees including (probably successional) black locust provide partial shade over stand. The Ohio River does not flood this stand due to altered hydrology. No regeneration of black locust or black walnut noted, but Acer negundo does have regeneration - maybe the stand is recovering from farming in the last century. Silver maple only occurs on the edge of the community as it abuts the lizardtail (Saururus cernuns) slough.
