The plot is located in a bowl between two large rock escarpments. Plot GARI.45 is located on the edge of one of these huge pieces of Rim Rock. In between in the bowl they are forested and oly 3-4 feet mossy shelves are exposed. Towards the gorge they are huge exposed bedrock with 40-60 ft shere cliff faces. The upland edge is surrounded by Hemlock/Rhododendron forest.;Early successional tulip poplar forest growing in the bottom of a "draw". The bottom of the draw is rocky with fine sediment soils in between them. The drainage is dry now but there is definitely signs of surficial H20 movement (moved litter, bare soil). Although the "seep" is forested, most of the trees are growing on the slopes above and hang over the community. Dark cool forest with only New York fern having any significant herb cover.
Representativeness
Narrow forest community growing in a shallow draw. Reminds me of the fern gully community at NERI. Here the forest community is earlier successional.
