Across the river on the sideslope is a mixed deciduous forest over Rhododendron maximum. On the upper terrace behind the plot is thick forest of short LiTu mixed w/ Hemlock (see plot GARI.48). Downstream on River left is a sandy beach and a camp owned by one of the many raft companies.;Car sized alluvial boulder field along a rapid zone of the Gauley River. Open shrubland community with a rich herb diversity growing in the sandy crevices. Frequently flooded scour zone with all the larger shrubs and trees bent downstream. There is some signs of people (beer bottles and other assorted trash).
Representativeness
Small patch of cobble bar/ flat rock PLOC-BENI shrubland similar to ones sampled at GARI, NERI and BLUE. This is more similar to the NERI than the BLUE. The stream has a higher gradient and more intense rapid zones.
