Shallow cove bottom cutting through an E facing gorge slope. To the NW ca. 1/4 mile is the Summersville Dam. Below the plot is a short cliff break and then the forest is a younger with more deciduous trees than Hemlock. Up the drainage ca. 100 m is a Powerline swath. Nice Xeric oak stand on Ridge N of spur.;Mature forest community dominated by Tsuga canadensis. Well structured forest w/ large downed trees and tip mounds. The forest floor is well shaded and almost entirely void of herbs. In the sunnier openings is where the Rhododendron occurs. Representativeness
Large patch of Hemlock/ Rhododendron cove forest. This is a fine example of what I believe to be the most common community type found here. Similar to plots sampled at NERI and MONF. Area was surveyed to sample ELU 2131.
