Roughly 50 m east is a jeep trail coming in from Laurel Creek. The plot is located on a large plateau atop the end of a large river bend. We are within the NPS proclamation boundary. However, I believe the area is intermixed with private land. The river is within a 1/4 mi to the N, E and W and can be heard from the plot. To the NW the forest is older and slightly more diverse but still dominated by Hemlock;Young forest dominated by conifer trees with a few deciduous trees intermixed. The ground is almost void of vegetation except for a handful of seedlings and a small patch of Lycopodium. The forest is cool and shady. The soils are very deep. Dense regeneration of TsCa in the T3 and S1 layers.
Representativeness
Large patch of conifer forest. Plot was placed to sample ELUs 1130/2130. Reminiscent of plot GARI.48 except it was along the river w/ large alluvial boulders and here there are large pines.
