Downslope is similar for a ways then picks up more Rhododendron maximum, below that are small alluvial terraces around point bar. Upslope appears to be successional tulip poplar (oak-hickory?);Steep slope with hemlock-mixed deciduous forest with herbaceous understory. Forest is patchy with mixed ages--this plot with many smaller trees but with larger hemlock and beech nearby--possibly due to patch fire--fire scars on most canopy trees. Older patches have lower herb cover due to heavier cover by hemlock. Charcoal in soil, tip mound hummock topography.

Samples ELU halfway between drainage and nose on steep. We were shooting for ELU 1122/2122 however we were just below it. The ELU would have been drier and more sterile, with less TSCA and THNO. This may be an ecotone or be equivalent to rich hemlock fo
