Upslope 40 m is the old jeep trail where we are parked, above the road is this ELU but dominated more by Hemlock. Above ELU 1113/2113 is a thin patch of PIVI/Heath (GARI.74). For more context see other plots from today. Below the plot ca. 200 m is the mouth of an unnamed run and the Middle Gauley.;Dry oak/ heath forest on a surprisingly cool south aspect. The forest floor is covered w/ moss laiden colluvial boulders. Dense Mt. Laurel covers much of the plot. The forest floor is somewhat shaded by the dense overstory canopy.
Representativeness
Medium patch of oak heath forest. Plot was placed to sample ELU 1113/2113. We placed our plot below the road which crosses the ELU here it is more oak dominant, across the road it is a TSCA Oak mix in the overstory.
