Below the plot about 40 m is a trail ~80-100 m south is the Gauley river. There is a large Rhododendron patch to the W 25 m. Hemlock stand seems to begin ~20 m S. The river can be heard in the plot.;Sugar maple, basswood forest that is cool and shady. It stands on a rocky slope with boulders as large as compact cars to boulders the size of a soccer ball. There is very little hemlock here, which appears to begin just down slope of us. There are many drop offs due to the large boulder cover within the plot. On high rock, little deer browse.
