Across river is steep bank quickly becoming upland forest (tulip poplar-red oak-hemlock). Slightly upstream across river is a narrow birch woodland similar to this. Back from river on this side is red oak-hemlock-beech floodplain forest.;Riverside sandy deposition bar along a pool, community is a woodland or stunted forest dominated by Betula nigra over a lush tall herb layer dominated by grasses and composites. Slow reaches appear to favor this c.t. in contrast to fast reaches which support more Platanus occidentalis and Andropogon gerardii on cobble/ boulder substrates. Flotsam at top of plot indicates regular flooding, possibly earlier in this growing season.
