Other small patch riparian variants in this river stretch include 1) open BENI woodland with dominance in herb layer by Andropogon gerardii. 2) More closed canopy BENI forest with tall herbs in sandy low area downstream.;Rocky riverscoured boulder bar with scattered small, battered sycamore and birch. Herb layer is dominated by tough, cespatose perennials. New growth on many woody species and stunted herbs demonstrate flooding earlier in this growing season. Bonzai black gum 2 ft tall, 6 cm basal diameter. 110-20 clumps of Spiraea virginiana.
