Large wetland complex with fence lines but little evidence of cattle use, at least his season. Major community types include (1) alder (this plot), (2) extensive Carex stricta - Calamagrostis canadensis meadow, and (3) Typha - Rosa palustris patches.;Floodplain of meandering stream headwaters with large stand of alder. This plot differs from most of our alder plots by being alluvial and lacking organic soils. The most apparent reflection of this is high cover by Carex stricta and high cover of exposed mud.
Representativeness
Near edge of community type. Tough going, hard to assess if this is representative of entire stand, but this is a good representation of alder on mineral alluvial soil. (see air photo for stand size)
