Southern end of New Creek Mountain at the edge of a large roadless tract. Much of the ridge to the N is a younger more disturbed version of this community. Ridgetop will be developed soon for wind power.;Dry forest community dominated by pitch pine and Mt. Laurel. Little noticeable man made disturbance at present. One larger pitch pine was cored and 68 annual rings counted. There are few if any herbs within the plot. Very similar to plot GRAN.32 only with pine and black gum.
Representativeness
Large patch of xeric pine - oak / heath forest growing on the west flank of a N-S running ridgeline. The plot was placed to sample the pine. The patch is similar to GRAN.32 except here Pinus rigida is dominant. Similar to plots sampled on Shenandoah Mtn.
