Dryer ground adjacent to plot grades to hemlock forest with very sparse understory plant growth. Further into wetland is an alder tall shrub swamp with scattered younger trees.;Narrow zone of mixed conifer/deciduous swamp forest dominated by Tsuga canadensis with Fraxinus nigra and Acer rubrum also represented in the canopy. Irregular microtopography with evidence of old nurse logs and root rafts with flat hollows nearly dry after some dry months. There is also abundant, more recent windfall. Canopy height not very tall, perhaps due to water stress.
