Downstream floodplain has extensive herb community dominated by Solidago rugosa with or without Carex stricta and Calamagrostis canadensis. Just upstream is another beaver pond which is currently full of water. Small clump of Scirpus atrocinctus is just below beaver dam, downstream of Sparganium community.;Recently active beaver pond mostly drawn down at this late date after a dry summer. Sparganium americanum dominates a zone that would have had shallow standing water if the pool were full. Now most of pond is mud flat with a small pool just behind the dam. Slightly downhill from Sparganium is a zone with scattered clumps of Juncus effusus.
Representativeness
Plot includes most of small patch dominated by Sparganium americanum and Juncus effusus. Differs from higher elevation burr-reed community type which is dominated by Sparganium chlorocarpon, but otherwise similar.
