Rail trail runs at slope base, then river.;Northwest aspect of bluff slope on outside bend of river in area of limestone lithology. May be on contact zone with more basic limestone, judging from shift in vegetation. This community is a mixed evergreen deciduous forest dominated by large hemlock with a few huge red oak. Regen in tall shrub layer is mostly sugar maple. Hemlock appear unhealthy but still have leaves, although light under canopy has probably increases. Forb layer includes some mesophytic calciphiles.
Representativeness
Small patch of dying large hemlock with huge red oaks. May represent potential habitat for yew, which grows on trail bank downhill. Similar to rich hemlock forests on Bluestone.
