Casual trail leads to stand from fishermans trail. Upslope is bouldery and open with scattered trees up to cliff. Riverside is heavily trailed with campsites ect. Confined to floodplain.;Boulderfield below limestone cliffs on north aspect, just above outside bend of river. Lower colluvial slope has scattered and clumped white cedar, basswood, and (dying) hemlock. White cedar are largest we have seen in WV and the community is quite different from other cliff sites where it is known. Average large Thuja was cored; the center was rotten but 117+ rings were counted in 14.6 cm of a 52cm dbh tree - age is probably 200+ years. There are deep voids between boulders and deep organic accumulations. Tops of boulders are moss and fern covered and these are overtopped by tall herbs and shrubs. Large downfall under brush, treacherous footing.
Representativeness
Small patch of huge white cedar. Additional trees are widely scattered, mostly near base of talus to the west. Plot samples a cluster or grove and so has greater than average cover and basal area for larger stand.
