Stand of very large trees punctuated by large gaps. Ailanthus is established in gaps. Upslope are glady woodlands (GWNF.10) with high diversity in rockiest positions.;Rocky east facing slope with huge Red Oaks with tall Striped Maple dominating subcanopy. Hickories and smaller oaks have damaged tops, probably from windfall of larger trees. Herb layer is sparse due to heavy shade of subcanopy. Lots of down wood all across this slope. Tree mortality may be partly due to gypsy moth.
Representativeness
Placed to sample large living trees, which are scattered between gaps on this aspect. Stand extends downslope to trail and some below. Likely virgin forest w/ no sign of fire.
