Additional communities in vicinity include Chestnut Oak / ericad, Red Oak, Witch Hazel, Red Oak / ericad, Yellow Birch - Mt. Ash, private inholdings and access roads fragment this section to some degree.;NW flank of a high knob along crest of Shenandoah Mt. Forest dominated by low statured red oak with clumps of Hemlock in subcanopy still living. Would be poised for Hemlock dominance but for adelgid which has killed most larger Hemlock in the vicinity. Sweet Birch is also prominent in subcanopy. Species poor herb layer dominated by Pennsylvanica sedge.
