Areas with strong dominance by White Pine nearby, thought to be successional on more mesic ground. Other areas have pure Oak in canopy with White Pine in understory.;Ridgetop forest on acidic sandstone. Canopy is dominated by scattered large White pine with Black Oak, White Oak over an evergreen shrub layer of Mountain Laurel. Relatively young forest following clearing or fire. No stumps seen, little coarse woody debris, White Pines about 50 years old. Tree height suppressed by wind / ice damage.

Similar to White Pine - Oak at Bluestone, Pocahontas Co. Placed plot to sample codominance of White Pine with mixed oaks over ericad shrub layer. Probably a matrix forest type at this elevation and lower W flank convex slope positions.
