Surrounded by sub-xeric oak - hickory forest with some ercaceous low shrubs and white pine in the understory. Directly south along the adjacent boardwalk is a cinnamon fern wetland infested with Microstegium vimneum;Small "black pond" or treeless circular depression, ringed by trees on ridgetop. Fenced to keep horses out in 2009. Site is at trail junction and boardwalk along adjacent trail infested with Microstegium vimneum. Sphagnum moss occupies drier portions of depression. Water apparently ponds (no moss) in some litter covered hollows. Daylighting for fence (11 trees cut) has brought in light. Scirpus is fruiting but sphagnum is dessicated at this time.
