Back dipslope from cliff is birch shrubland coming in after gypsy moth oak kill. Below cliff is rocky woodland with abundant dead oak snags - where it becomes less acidic it is extremely weedy hickory woodland. Matrix forests are chestnut oak / Kalmia and red oak / fern.;Cliff band along ridge summit. Cliff band is about 20 m tall and has open flat pavement on top, which is apparently natural, but also enhanced by canopy die - off from gypsy moth. Substrate is coarse sandstone conglomerate. There are few stunted and dead shrubs on rock. Lithomorphic vegetation is dominated by toadskin and green crustose lichens. The cliff is roughly 20 m tall with 50 % ledges and 10 % overhangs.
