To NW is an abrupt break to successional forest with 100% cover by weedy herbs - area logged, thin thinned (totally destroyed by weeds). Cool aspect and side drain have tuliptree over weeds. Beautiful oak stand continues SE (mixed white oak- hickory).;Gently sloping mid-slope on south aspect on enriched soil above karst (sinkholes at this elevation to NW). There are a few stumps, but also natural dead fall ~ stand was spared from USFS management that afflicted the stand to the NW. Forest is dominated by large white oak and mockernut hickories. Sparse regen and shrub layers may reflect browsing or past grazing. Herb layer is lush. Surficial rock fizzes with acid test.
Representativeness
Small-large (?) patch white oak - hickory forest. Probably same type as GWNF.53, but this stand is older, less disturbed, and less ecotonal. These 2 plots are quite different from other plots sampled nearby.
