This community is limited to bedrock "islands" within the high water channel of the Shenandoah River, Floodplains adjacent to river with more stabilized soils and forest development are dominated by mature sycamore, burr oak, and Shumard oak forests.;Exposed riverside bedrock with community maintained in "open" state by occasional flooding. Community dominated by young trees (red ash, sycamore, elm), shrubs, and herbs.

Small patch shrub/herbaceous floodplain community with healthy population of globally rare plant species Paronychia virginica.
