Just downhill from residential area and uphill from the park road. Weeds are encroaching from most directions (Lonicera japonica, Alliaria petiolata). Below park road is the railroad and then the river. To the south is a more mesic oak forest in draw (Quercus rubra - Q.montana / Dryopteris marginalis).;Upper slope with southeast aspect on Harpers formation (Phyllite). Forest of mixed oaks and white ash with some hickories and scattered pine. Dogwood and redbud dominate the tall shrub layer which is dense in patches and less dense elsewhere. Some areas have Carex pennsylvanica patches but plot has somewhat higher herb diversity than these areas. Many trees have widened bases (from stump sprouting) and fire scars.
Representativeness
Plot has high canopy diversity and moderate herb diversity. Plot placed outside of weedy zone. Part of plot has high litter and very low herb cover. The other part has higher herb cover. Slight hump and swale (with high litter) horizontal slope shape.
Historic logging. Forest regenerated from stump sprouts. Casual trails and official trail through community. Residential area just uphill. Dogwoods looking very wilted. (logging, exotic plants, trails/roads, dogwood anthracnose)
