Limestone forest east of plot. Railroad tracks west of plot. Lots of surrounding residential areas and strip mines. Noise pollution from industry.;Opening is narrow and runs at an angle to the slope, but following an outcrop which appears to be sandstone. Soils however are circumneutral (maybe eroded from limestone). A deer /casual human trail goes through plot. There are beer cans and a deer carcass in plot. This plot is less diverse than HAFE.29 but also less weedy. Dominated by native grasses and Kuhnia eupatoriodes. There are fewer small junipers and this stand seems likely to be edaphically maintained due to shallow soil around rock.
Representativeness
Plot is most of a small opening which is disconnected from other smaller openings by bands of closed canopy red cedars.
This patch is much less weedy compared to HAFE.29, but also has lower native diversity. It has a better buffer and may be a more edaphicly controlled glade. (fire?,exotic plants, erosion, trails/roads, grazing/browsing)
