Landscape Narrative ? Other communities on mountain top are oak/mtn. laurel, oak / Porter's calamagrostis forest (forming forested lawns), table mtn. pine forest (successional burn patches),;North facing chute betweem two sandstone outcrops on a high, windy ridgetop. Rock outcrops are composed of 2-3 inch layers which are nearly horizontal. Community is a woodland of short rapidly tapering red pine, here at one of only 2 reported natural WV occurrences - the furthest south in the species' range. Largest trees have dead branches and there are dead snags of various ages but there is also red pine regeneration in all size classes. Mortality may be due to insects or ice. Very windy aspect today.
Representativeness ? Small patch red pine / mountain laurel woodland, Plot centered on red pine dominance. Roughly half of the local patch.
