River shoreline has a narrow band of tall herbs and willows, in places replaced by Phalaris arundinacea, then there is a narrow band of Platanus / Acer negundo forest, followed by train tracks, ditches, and a road.;Main channel of Shenandoah River where bedrock strata cross the river diagonally, forming a long series of stair step ledges and falls with exposed bedrock creating habitat for Justicia americana. Justicia becomes established in cracks in the rock and in boulder and gravel accumulations and also traps sand and gravel to form additional rooting substrate. The river is shallow all the way across, possibly wadable, and scattered patches of Justicia extend across the river and up and down the extent of the falls.
