Private ranch with active cattle grazing. Open fields on top of mountain and in drainage bottom with mature forests on variable geologies and aspects on side slopes.;Old growth forest of white oak, white ash, and red oak with basswood and chinqupin oak. Limestone parent material. Cows on property, not fenced out of this stand. Abundant deer. No shrub layer, presumably due to herbivory. Lots of dead down and standing wood. Canopy gaps. Rich forb layer with several weeds abundant.
Representativeness
Mature matrix forest on limestone. May be climax of Quercus muhlenbergii - Juniperus virginiana forest which occurs as younger forewst to the north (see plot HAMP.3)
