Some areas have abundant downfall, mostly successional pine. Lower bench has widely spaced white oak with white pine. Most areas appear older 2nd growth follow clearing or fire but some large oaks and white pine may be relics of pre-settlement age.;Shoulder of dissected bench in shale foothills. Forest is mixed evergreen/deciduous with white pine in canopy and subcanopy. Virginia pine in canopy breaking up. White oak is dominant with scarlet oak scattered. Subcanopy includes maples and hickories. Shrub layer and tree regen are sparse due to heavy deer herbivory.
Representativeness
May represent white oak - white pine / blueberry association. Matrix white oak forst sampled for average/representative mix of tree species. Other areas have pure white oak, others more chestnut oak (upslope).
