Depression is surrounded by acidic upland forest of pitch pine - black gum / huckleberry.;Highly degraded depression wetland on high bench adjacent to summit ridge of South Branch Mountain. Hydrologically isolated with black pond like qualities (sandstone depression, surrounded by partly shading forest). This wetland has open water in the middle bordered by a wide area of torn up bare muck from recreational vehicle traffic. One corner has large woody debris that blocks vehicles, and this is where the native wetland plants persit. Private land-owner unknown (Alan Miller brought me to the site). Great potential for restoration, if vehicles removed.
Representativeness
Sample includes entire depression wetland and excludes surrounding upland forest.
