Grades upward into basswood, hop horn beam and other more mesic species, then to summit ridge proper.;Boulderfield forest. Large ( 3 m high ) sandstone boulders in slight saddle on SE facing aspect of ridge crest. Oak - hickory forest with undulating topography creating pockets of mesic vegetation. Soil development is good between boulders. One large butternut with spreading crown in plot.
