Large private hunt club property. Preserved in large block for wildlife. Property is lightly roaded with multiple silvacultural blocks, and extends to top of mountain. Just upslope is chestnut oak / heath with larger trees, no pine.;Convex shoulder of ridge spur on shale lithology. Forest is dominated by stunted Virginia pine and stump sprout chestnut oaks. There is fire evidence, which is probably from the date of pine stand development. Pine are likey to break up as oaks gains dominance - site is not dry enough for edaphic pine (shale barren) persistence. Hunt club member ( Jim Sisler) cites a history of wildfire and hog herding. Understory is dominated by blueberry and fruiticose lichens.
Representativeness
Small patch of conifer signature, probably representing repeated S and W facing conifer which is extensive on spurs at middle elevations. = Successional Virginia pine.
