Steep trail up one side is barely passable due to erosion. Forest downslope include large oak over browsed rhododendron.;Flat lying bedrock exposure on top of a steep sided knob. Overhanging cliffs drop off on both sides. Narrow top has shallow soils and sandstone pavement. Community is a woodland of stunted pitch pine with even more stunted oaks and red maple. Pine may be able to maintain dominance in absence of fire. Xeric type in one of the moistest areas of the state. Stand has multiple size classes but no evidence of fire. May experience drought kill.
Representativeness
Two size classes of pine in different areas of plot. Plot covers most of small patch of pitch pine woodland. Similar vegetation is not common in this ecoregion. Trail bisects plot. Park bench and overlook are outside of plot.
