A very steep trail leads to a bench at the plot site. Back from cliff is a small patch of stunted Pinus rigida. Slopes have oak / rhododendron with heavy browseline.;Clifftop of southwest facing sandstone escarpment on top of a knob. Convex upper clifftop and face with hottest aspect. Rock has moderate cover by squammulose and crustose lichens. Umbilicate lichens conspicuously scarce compared to rocks in high Alleghenies and Ridge and Valley, but becomes more abundant on upper cliff face. Clifftop may be partly kept open for views.
Representativeness
Small patch of low angle clifftop. Plot includes most of this habitat here, with a couple small outlier outlooks both directions. This is very rare habitat in this region of the state.
