Downslope grades to hemlock-northern hardwoods (see HORI.3). Forests have maturing canopies but limited regeneration due to deer herbivory.;Upper-middle southeast aspect slope with rocky soils and scattered sandstone boulders. Community is a second growth deciduous forest dominated by medium-large red oak and red maple with black gum. Beech in understory. State park has abundant deer and evident browse lines. Large beech snags. Rotted stumps in plot.
