The plot is just over the ridge top on the north facing shoulder slope. Roughly 175m to the south is the Old State Park road 806 which is now the east-west branch of the Ridge Trail Road hiking trail. Another 1km east is the Right Fork river.;Large red oaks dominate canopy while sugar maple almost solely comprises the T3 and S1. The herb layer is all but absent and while there is some recruitment of oak in the S2, there has clearly been a great deal of deer herbivory (as evidenced by the large amount of deer scat in the plot). The canopy seems somewhat open and there is a good deal of windfallen trees and large branches inside and outside the plot; this is consistent along the entire section of the ridge we have observed.
Representativeness
Plot was placed to capture more xeric ridge-line oak/maple signature
