Plot is just ~100m downslope from the Ridge Road Trail in a drainage which feeds a larger drainage running perpendicular and just a couple meters from the plot edge. Plot is in more xeric community that continues ~300m northeast further up into the cove before transitioning into a wetter, hickory-tulip poplar stand.;Plot has now dry drainage running through it with a diverse mesic T2. T3 and S1 are dominated by sugar maple. What remains of the herb layer is concentrated around drainage with a dominance of new york fern and the presence of some moisture loving herbs like false-nettle. Rocks smaller than 20cm are strewn throughout the plot, not just in the drainage.
