Large N - S running ridge separating eastern most WV from VA. The ridge is home to a small section of the Appalachian trail. Much of the forest from here back to Keys Gap was a very weedy Oak - Hickory forest.;Dry forest community growing on a NE facing shoulder slope. The forest in dominated by Chestnut Oak over an understory of Black Gum. The forest floor is covered with S2 Vaccinium pallidum and Gaylassacia baccata. There are a few scattered Pinus rigida throughout the stand. Many of the Overstory Oak trees have damaged leaves from insect herbivory and appear heavily stressed.

Large patch of sub-xeric Oak / Heath forest. Plot was placed to sample the windy ridge polygon located on the Blue Ridge.
