Landscape Narrative ? Long N - S running ridge separating WV from VA. The Appalachian Trail runs along the crest of the ridge. East of the trail is WV, West is VA. The matrix forest along the ridge is Oak / Hickory. Small patches of Oak - Pine / Heath, Oak / Heath and Red Oak / Hamamelis are also found along the ridge.;Even aged forest community dominated by Quercus prinus, Q. rubra / Hamamelis virginiana. The plot is located right on the edge of the scarp slope with some exposed sandstone bedrock. There is little Oak regeneration and very sparse herb cover. Both likely the result of heavy deer herbivory. Armillaria 'boot straps' found under bark of standing dead T2 oaks. Many of the T2 oaks have insect munch holes in the leaves.
Representativeness ? Small patch of Chestnut Oak - Red Oak / Witch Hazel forest growing on a gently sloping NW facing scarp slope. The plot was placed to sample the wind resource polygon located on the Blue Ridge.
