Remote USFS tract, accessible by steep, narrow, 4x4 , gated road to ridge. Matrix forest include montane red oak - moosewood, rich oak - hickory, and oak/heath. USFS has plans to begin disturbance and roading tract.;High elevation ridgeline with exposed sandstone bedrock ledge on north flank. Deep boulder accumulation at base of ledges support large, widely scattered sweet birch and a single red maple - oak are apparently unable to grow on the boulder, substrate acts as a cold sink. Shrub layer is dominated by mountain maple, although striped maple is dominant in surrounding oak forest on soil. Boulders are moss covered and birch have abundant beard lichen on trunks.

Small patch sweet birch boulderfield / cliff forest. Patchy, linear - confined to colluvium exfoliated at base of bedrock on ridgetop.
