Wetland is surrounded by upland openings (far above reach of beaver burn) suggesting past clearing for grazing, slow to come back to forest. Surrounding forest are maturing northern hardwoods (2 or 3 degrees) with lots of cherry in marketable size.;Old beaver pond on headwaters of a tributary of Potatoehole Fork. Herbaceous wetland dominated by Scirpus cyperinus covers the bottom of the drained pond which now has a small streamlet running through the middle with Sparganium chlorocarpon growing in the water. Near the stream is zone of less cover by Scirpus which is dominated by mosses. There are a few dead snags around the edges. Successional community post-beaver.
Representativeness
Plot includes about half of a small patch wetland dominated by Scirpus cyperinus in bottom of old beaver pond. There is a central "gut" with heavy sphagnum cover with few herbs and a small stream.
