This community runs pretty much along the ridge at least back to Clay Run Trail with the exception of a dense even aged stand of <10cm dbh Birch trees coming in on an old clear cut. Also within the saddle of Mill Ridge it gets more mesic with Tilia, Yellow Birch and stinging wood nettles coming in. The forest here is owned and managed by the State. There is a trail that runs along the ridge.;Large stand of 2nd growth? forest dominated by large Sugar Maple, Black Cherry, and Red Oak trees. Lots of windthrow headed both uphill and down. Many scattered large standing dead throughout the stand. The forest floor is riddled with tip mounds. Little Oak regeneration even through there are many large trees on the ridge. There are several old decayed stumps in the plot.
Representativeness
Large patch of Northern hardwood forest. This is the Red Oak - Cherry variant. Plot was placed to sample windy ridges polygon. Stand is similar to plots @ Briery Mtn. and Rich Mtn. Battlefield. Here it is less disturbed and the trees are much nicer.
