Somewhat isolated tract of State Forest. Land is likely managed for timber and game. The plot is very near aproperty boundary. Below the plot is a stream terrace of Mowry Run dominated by young tulip poplar. Mark Hall has a plot KUMB.1 located less than 300 yards NE in a small cove. The plot sheet says it is a tulip poplar cove. This plot is similar to the limestone forest at Coberly Sods except here there is no snow trillium. Upslope from plot the forest is sterile red oak - chestnut oak / red maple over a dense patch of Taenidia integerrima.;Rich forest with large Quercus rubra in the overstory an an understory of Acer saccharum and Fraxinus americana. There are many early spring bloomers in the plot. The plot consists of a steep forested toeslope with several 8-10 ft high exposed limestone ledges. There appears to be a cave entrance at the base of the plot.
Representativeness
Small patch of mature red oak / sugar maple forest growing on exposed limestone. Plot was placed to maximize cover by bedrock.
