Large tract of timberland leased from private industry and managed by the WVDNR as a wildlife management area. Downslope .2 miles is old NW railroad bed rd. and Laurel Lake. About .5 miles north is a large coal mine. Much of the surrounding forest appears to be oak-hickory. Plot LALA.2 is located about .2 miles north.;Deciduous forest growing on a somewhat dry midslope. The overstory is dominated by large mixed oak trees growing over scattered pignut hickories, red maple and american beech. The herb diversity appears low and many of the S2 shrubs have been browsed by deer. The forest is possibly second growth with no signs of contemporary anthropological disturbance.
