Ca. 100m to the SE is a sandstone cliff brake. It is also found ca 250m to the NW. To the NE ca 400m is Millers Rock Overlook (plot LORI.3). There is a hiking trail located 20m to the SE. The Oak - Hickory community occurs all the way S along the ridge to Big Ridge.;Mature 2nd growth forest dominated by Quercus prinus - Q. alba - Carya glabra with a rather dense herb layer of White Snake Root and Calamogrostis porteri. There is little in the way of S2 - S1 tree regeneration. Several large dead Chestnut Oaks are down in the plot. The community occurs on a gently sloping ridgetop. Armillaria bootstraps found on the large downed and standing dead Oak trees. No garlic mustard in the plot, which is somewhat of a shock, considering it occurs on the trail near the plot.
Representativeness
Large patch of Oak - Hickory forest. Plot was placed to sample the high wind resource polygon located along the ridge at Lost River State Park.
