The plot is located in a narrow wedge of private land between Laurel Lake and Lick Branch. The tract is forested and seems to be the same age as the surrounding WMA land. Upslope ca .12 miles SW is plot LALA.7. Plot LALA.6 is ca .3 miles NW. Laurel Lake is .1 miles north. Plot LALA.1 is located ca .14 miles ENE.;Mixed mesophytic forest growing on a steep north slope facing colluvial midslope. The overstory is a mix of red oak - basswood - tuliptree / sugar maple. The forest floor has a dense lush herb layer dominated by black cohosh. This plot has the highest density of herbs of any plot sampled in the area thus far. There is little sign of fire here, unlike previous plots sampled today.
