Across river is Maryland. Floodplain forest on WV side is young and weedy. Site of plot belongs to Potomac State University;Bedrock outcrop which runs down to river with loose gravel chutes between rock fins. Hot, dry exposure. Community is mostly open but one large, stunted red oak provides shade. There are several dead junipers sawn out for fence posts and smaller living specimens. Many shrub clumps have dead branches and saplings have dead tops, probably due to drought stress. Fenceline runs above plot, may have limited grazing and trample.
Representativeness
Small patch of open glade/prairie. Plot samples area with soil and high herb cover. Other open areas adjacent have more bedrock. Spectacular natural open limestone community!
