Landscape Narrative ? Large wetland surrounded by spruce on lower slope. Just upslope from plot grades to spruce forest. Just downhill is a low open area with Leersia oryzoides, beyond that is a drier sedge type (Carex scoparia).;Wetland edge on slightly sloping toeslope. Dense patch dominated by Carex lacustris (a rare species in WV), with hummocks dominated by Dryopteris cristata. Old beaver gnawings in plot. Just downstream is a beaver burn of old dead spruce. This community is on a seepy, alluvial fan from a draw uphill. Seepage includes some reddish "rusty" muck.
Representativeness ? Plot is most of a singular patch dominated by Carex lacustris. Homogeneous vegetation. Herb community with a couple of spruce saplings.
