Meandering river with open grasslands along the channel/levee with alder swamp in permanently wet areas behind the levees. Wetter positions have Carex communities with Carex stricta, Carex utriculata, and Carex lacustris growing together and in more pure patches.;Riparian zone along Cranberry River with levee and dryer positions with this community by Calamagrostis canadensis in near monocultures. Deep alluvial soils with red parent material derived from Mauch Chunk. Many fluvial features occur even within this community. Frequent flooding by high energy water and dumping of sediments preclude woody encroachment.
Representativeness
Entire small patch community which repeats in the levee/fluvial channel zone along river. This stand is just 500 meters squared but the occurrence is much larger. This is a bigger, more discreet patch than most, but may have more diversity than some of th
