High gradient river drainage with boulders in channel. Road follows river on one side with many camp sites. Upland forests are rich northern hardwoods with Tilia, Betula alleghaniensis, Aesculus flava, and Quercus rubra.;Scoured boulder bar with a shrub / herbaceaous community. Rooting zone is in gravel, cobble and sand between boulders. Dominant shrubs include Salix sericea, Physiocarpus opuifolius, and Rhododendron arborescens. Herbs include flood tolerant, wetland, sunloving, and weedy species. High diversity of microlichens due to boulders and relative elevation.
Representativeness
Small patch community. Similar to Marshalia grandiflora communities on Shavers Fork but bigger boulder substrate. Similar vegetation repeated in smaller patches.
